Self-Marking Work

What we have done well and not so well
We had a specific audience for our film opening we thought that we should make a horror film opening with those that enjoy the psychological sub genre of horror that is who we had in mind to aim our film opening at .We haven't included any credits yet, however when we do we will be adding the names of the people who played characters in the film as well as our name of the film and the names of everyone in our group we will be adding them in at the beginning and not at the end as this confuses people and they may mistake our opening for a trailer .When we were editing the film we thought that we should include some eary music to relate to the theme of horror and to stick to the mise en scene or horror. When filming the kill scenes we decided that Charlie who plays our killer David Donnell should wave into the camera every time he killed someone. We did this as it clearly shows to the audience that our film is a horror film as the scene is very disturbing and creepy. When filming we carefully moved the camera as steady as possible as we didn't want to make the camera wobble or move a lot. When filming our opening for our film Viral Terror we thought about using a shot where is looked like we were watching it through the eyes of a security CCTV camera. Apart from this shot we didn't really take into account any other types of shots, we would just put the camera in a position and start filming as long as it looked good and we could see the faces of the characters. Although we did this the finished product is good. Their are no mistakes that are visible to do with the camera work. It does not shake or jolt at any time throughout the opening.

Action Plan
To improve our  work I personally think that we need to re-film some scenes as they are either comical, the camera moves slightly or because something isn't right and it doesn't look as well as we had hoped. We need to take into consideration using different shot types such as more pans and a Dutch tilt maybe to make our opening seem less repetitive as there are more varieties of shots and we are not using the same ones every time. Finally we could record some of the lines of the script again using the recording studio as this will increase the volume of the voices of the characters therefore the audience will be able to listen to the voices of the characters and will not be struggling to make out what is being said as the cameras are not the best at picking up specific sounds it takes in every sound that is occurring throughout filming. This is our plan and my opinion of what I think will make our film opening the best it possibly can be and to ensure that we score a high grade for our efforts.

Group Action Plan
We as a group think that we have to re-film a lot of the scenes that we have previously filmed. We have agreed that we need to re-film a few of the scenes that we have. These scenes include the opening scene with Emily and Charlie we have decided upon changing the dialogue and the kill scene to having Charlie in the apartment cooking food and then dunking Emily in a sink full of blood. As well as this we are going to re-film the scene where Kim and Junior are attacked and killed by Charlie. We are then going to re-film Sam's scene where he is filming himself for his YouTube channel and then he is killed on screen as he is watching it. We have decided that Sam is going to wrestle with Charlie and then Charlie is going to flip Sam onto his back and stab him in the back using splice cuts when editing. Finally we have also decided that it would be a good idea if we recorded the script in the schools recording studio sot that when the final piece is complete you would not hear rustling noises in the background. We will only be able to do this if we have enough time.

We agreed that at the moment our work is sitting on a level 2 medium. However when we re-film some of our scenes, change the script a little bit and dubbed over the lines for the opening of our horror movie we think that our work will be at least a level 3 high if not higher.

Script for Viral Terror (1st Draft)

Jamie Stuart (Main Character)

David Donnell (Killer)

Victims: (In order of death)

1.    Antonio Borelli
2.    Carl Jackson & Laura Hodge (Couple)
3.    Robbie Andrews
4.    Daisy Williams

We see the victims of the killer all enter the apartment, on four different CCTV monitor screens on the same screen, split into four sections. Each character is then murdered one by one, on screen, seen in the last above. The killer appears one by one in each section of the screen, and kills them in notorious ways. When the killing takes place the shot then switches to that individual section of CCTV and after the victim is killed it turns back to all four shots, and then to the next, etc. The end shot is all four screens looking empty, and the victim dead. The shot which will be focused on will be highlighted in green with wording on the script.

SCENE 1 THE MEMORY

ANTONIO BORELLI DEATH
top left corner on split camera shot into 4 shots.
Is walking down the stairs within the flat before he hears a wining and groaning sound from David Donnell.

David then approaches Antonio from behind and walks slowly down the staircase, silent and we see Antonio turn around twice. When Antonio does this David is standing there still staring at him, on the first time Antonio looks at him before turning away. On the second Antonio stops as he hears David’s foot-steps and confronts him.

ANTONIO
“Hello?um..may I help..you?”

When Antonio says this David moves closer to him before standing him square in the face. Antonio should be on the lower part of the stair case, whilst David is on the higher to show how David is more powerful, and feared

David grabs Antonio before hitting him with a hammer around the head, and brutally beating him to death on the floor with the weapon.

Antonio remains silent and is left for dead, with blood dripping from his head. We see David standing still and waving at the camera, holding the weapon in his right hand. David then slowly walks off.

END OF SCENE

CARL JACKSON & LAURA HODGE DEATH
Top right corner on split camera shot intro 4 shots.
Couple walking into the apartment block and see David lying on the floor in front of them, groaning. Laura whispers to Carl on camera

LAURA
“Carl we’ve got to call an ambulance! He’s in pain!”

Carl
“I’ll check his airways you dial 999!”

LAURA stays well back and is shaking. She struggles to dial 999 and with her fingers shaking on her phones keypad. She is in a panic and constantly looks up at Carl. CARL is knelt over David and places his hand on his neck to check his pulse. Carl’s hand is now touching David’s neck, and suddenly David grabs Carl by the throat, and pushes him away from himself whilst still grasping firmly onto his throat.

DAVID stands up holding Carl before smashing Car’s head against the wall. Carl is now dead and LAURA hides within the corner on camera and finds no way of escaping underneath the staircase, crouches down in the corner (depending on the location and what’s available).

LAURA should be panicking in the corner and seem distressed. Her arms are wrapped around her legs whilst she’s crouched in the corner and she is rocking back and forth, scared. Laura hidden in the camera is visible in the corner however David is covering the front of her whilst beating her to death. We hear screaming before the screaming dies out.

DAVID
(laughs in an evil tone)
2 seconds then…
“Come here beautiful”

LAURA
(screaming for a moment before we hear a loud thud)
David emerges from beneath the staircase walks underneath the camera. We do not see David for a moment before he is at that the same height as the camera and stairs into it whilst smiling.

END OF SCENE

ROBBIE ANDREWS DEATH
(Scene which is the focus and zooms into)
Bottom left corner on split camera shot split into four shots

Has a backpack on and walks into the staircase from the outside. Robbie looks tired and is worn out, has headphones on. Robbie goes to walk up the stairs before seeing a hammer with blood on, laying on the floor. He bends down to pick it up and when he picks it up he feels a water droplet fall on his head. He looks up to see nothing. Robbie now faces back down to the hammer and carefully twists it in his hands to examine it. Robbie again feels another water droplet on his head.

Now getting anxious Robbie begins to look around at what is surrounding him. He suddenly hears a voice which is fairly quiet but loud enough to hear.

DAVID
“Smile for the camera, its your turn to say cheese”

Robbie looks behind him and as the audience they do not see David standing in front of him. When Robbie looks forward again the camera zooms in behind him to see David standing In front of him, Robbie then looks shocked and panicking.

ROBBIE
“Bloody hell! Who the hell are you, what do you want?!”
(gasp)

Robbie now begins to back away from David and as he does this David begins to wave at him and slowly grins at Robbie. Robbie holds the hammer firmly, and David then says.

DAVID
“Don’t play with my toy”
(starts to laugh with an evil tone)

Whilst laughing David grabs the hammer whilst Robbie struggles to hold it, however uses force to keep a grip.

ROBBIE
“Get off! I’ll kill you with this!”
“Back up man!”
(making a groan with the amount of force to keep a grip on the hammer)

DAVID
(begins to laugh louder)
“Will you Robbie?”

Robbie then looks shocked as David says his name and tries to escape David’s grip. David then pulls a knife out and brutally stabs Robbie.

ROBBIE
(struggles and is screaming in pain)
“NO! GET OFF ME! AH!”

Robbie is then murdered and drops to the floor, and David then faces the camera and waves at it, whilst Robbie lays on the floor bleeding.

END OF SCENE

DAISY WILLIAMS DEATH
Bottom left corner on split camera shot split into four shots

Daisy goes to enter her apartment and is waiting outside the door, and sees a bucket of blood outside her door which is full. The camera is at a birds eye view of the bucket which appears to be full. When we film the bucket will only be half full so the actress can breathe.

David then whispers in Daisy’s ear

DAVID
“Hello Gorgeous”
(he says this in a whispering tone, and in her ear without her noticing he’s there)

David then goes to kiss Daisy before Daisy resists and pushes him off, and is now shaking

DAISY
“Get off you creep! you dirty man”
(heavy breathing and gasping)

David then grabs Daisy’s head and kicks her shins. She trips over and then struggles to get back up as at this stage David is pinning her down.

“GET OFF!”

Daisy is now struggling whilst David is making a sound of force trying to pin her to the ground. He gets her head and grabs her by the hair forcing her head down into the bucket, causing her to make struggling movements to get away from downing and David’s grab. This should last for between 10-15 seconds before Daisy’s head is in the bucket and the rest of her body is sprawled over the floor. David walks away and is out of the shot whilst Daisy is left there dead.

At this point her body position is her head within the bucket with messy hair and her body sprawled out over the floor.

SCENE 2 INTRODUCING JAMIE STUART

Jamie has recently moved into his new apartment and is a vlogger which is well recognised and famous on the web for his videos. This scene takes place 18 years from when the flats were first built. Jamie’s apartment is clean and looks fairly new but cosy with the odd few cups and plates left out on the floor or table, to make it seem realistic. Jamie places the camera on a table facing towards his sofa. The camera is recording before he enters and watches him enter the room.

JAMIE
“Hey guys! Well sorry I haven’t uploaded in a while unfortunately, I’ve been busy with my studies and in fact I’ve actually just moved into this new place, got a nice TV! Got an area to chill out with my friends which to me well is something important. You see I’ve actually done it you know I did say in my last video I’d surprise you lot, and well yea I’ve got a home, some where safe and a calm place to come and chill out, I’ll show you around later! In a bit!”

Jamie waves at the camera then a different shot shows him switching off the camera to end the footage.

He says these lines in a confident manner and is friendly.

SCENE 3 REVIEWING THE FOOTAGE TO FIND DAVID

Jamie is sat reviewing the footage of his introduction video to his new flat. He begins to watch it on his laptop however as the audience we only see the footage he’s watching which switches back to him watching it, however we don’t see the footage actually on screen when it reverts back to Jamie watching it.

We then see David halfway through the video appear and he attacks Jamie by beating him brutally on camera. He hits Jamie in the head and causes him to bleed on camera. Jamie looks shocked and doesn’t understand what is happening, so he slams the screen of the laptop. No one is in the room with Jamie however when he feels something on his head he touches it to find blood pouring from his head.

The screen fades out

END OF SCENE

We are going to make changes to our script to match the new scenes that we are going to be re-filming.
